FAFSA U S. Department of Education

Linking your PIN can save you time because your information won’t have to be matched by the Social Security Administration if it was already matched when you created your PIN. If that’s the case, then your FSA ID is ready for full use right away—which means you’ll be able to sign a Master Promissory Note for a student loan, or fill out your Renewal FAFSA, right away. The application is available until June 30, 2023—but be sure to remind your students that some funds are limited, so it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible.

If you have multiple children who need to complete the FAFSA form, you can use the same FSA ID to sign FAFSA forms for all of your children. You can also transfer your information into your other children’s applications by choosing the option provided on the FAFSA confirmation page. Even if your child doesn’t live with you, supports him or herself, and files taxes separately from you, he or she may still be considered a dependent student for federal student aid purposes. To access eCDR Appeals and Experimental Sites select the 'Registration'link at the FSA login page and complete the registration process. The username and password combination you entered is not valid.

If I get locked out by AIMS, can I access the system by starting from a different site? Your user ID will be inoperable and you will not be able to gain access to any Federal Student Aid systems secured behind AIMS. You must wait 30 minutes before trying to use the same password again. When the password is unlocked 30 minutes later, you can try again or you can select the "Forgot Password" link at the FSA Login page and answer the challenge questions.

Do not share your FSA ID with anyone, not even your child. Your child should also not share his or her FSA ID with you. You’ll need it to renew your FAFSA form each year and to access federal student aid information online. You will see a warning message 5 days before your password is set to expire during your login. This warning message will display a prompt for you to change your password before it expires.

FAA Access to CPS Online

If you don’t remember your PIN or didn’t have one, don’t worry. There is no limit to the number of computers / devices that can be remembered for your account. Your child is one step closer to getting money for college. With the hard part over, learn what your child should do next after submitting the FAFSA form. This is where you’ll provide your own demographic information. List the schools to which you want your FAFSA® information sent.

If I have problems logging on, whom can I contact? Contact the FSA application help desk you are trying to access. For all other system access, please contact the FSA application specific helpdesk.

Invalid Username and/or Password

You may change your password by clicking on the 'Change Password'link from the login page at any time, or by clicking the 'Change Password' button when prompted from the password notification page. I know that applying for federal student aid can be a stressful experience, but don’t worry! You can go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid and it will provide some super helpful information such as what you should gather beforehand, and a link to create your own FSA ID—plus it will walk you through the entire process. To ensure the security of your account, you will be required to enter a one-time PIN each time you enter your username and password from this particular computer or device.

While we recommend that the student start his or her own FAFSA form, we know that’s not always what happens. With that in mind, we wanted to provide instructions for parents who are starting the FAFSA form on behalf of their child so you can avoid running into issues completing the form. We recommend signing the FAFSA form with an FSA ID because it’s the fastest way to get your child’s FAFSA form processed. However, if you and/or your child are unable to sign the FAFSA form electronically with an FSA ID, you can mail in a signature page. From the sign and submit page, select “Other options to sign and submit” and then choose “Print A Signature Page.” Just keep in mind that your child’s FAFSA form will take longer to process if you go this route. A save key is a temporary password that allows you and your child to “pass” the FAFSA form back and forth.

You will no longer be required to enter a one-time PIN each time you enter your username and password from this particular computer or device. You will need to enter that one-time PIN on the next page to access your account online. You will have the option to have the system remember this computer or device so you can bypass this process whenever you access your account from this particular computer or device in the future. In the School Selection section, you’ll add all the schools you want to receive your child’s information. It is important that you add every school your child is considering, even if he or she hasn’t applied or been accepted yet. It doesn’t hurt to add more schools; colleges can’t see the other schools that have been added.

You’re not finished with the FAFSA form until you and your child sign it. The FSA ID recently replaced the PIN as the way you log in to certain U.S. Department of Education websites, including fafsa.gov. It consists of a username and password and is basically the electronic equivalent of your signature.

Then, after the Social Security Administration match is done, you should receive an e-mail letting you know that you’ll now be able to use your FSA ID on a number of ED websites. We consider financial aid administrators, school counselors, college access organization staff, and other mentors to be our partners in educating students about applying for and receiving federal student aid. Several times a year, we email our partners with updates about our products and services, reminders about upcoming professional development opportunities, tips for outreach to students, and more.

In fact, you don’t even have to remove schools if your child later decides not to apply or attend. If your child doesn’t end up applying or getting accepted to a school, the school can just disregard his or her FAFSA form. You can remove schools at any time to make room for new schools. If your child is applying to more than 10 schools, here’s what you should do. While the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is the student’s application, we know that parents often play a large role in the process. After all, students who are considered dependent have to provide parental information on the FAFSA form anyway and must have a parent sign it.
